Final script.

Animation script final.

My new idea for the animation is a movie trailer style video. I will use a story idea I have been developing over the last year and create a mock trailer for it. The last script showed a scene from this story; the trailer will include this scene but a shortened version of it.

The trailer starts by showing the character close up as in the last script, breathing heavily with an angered expression.

The next section shows the army of mechs that have invaded Earth. They march towards the camera in single file, or maybe pairs.

The camera switches back to the first image zooming out on the character, for a second or two between every scene until he is shown attacking the city.

Next a capsule is shown with a human inside. Wires and tubes trail along the wall, which holds a sign reading ‘Subject arekku5’. The camera starts at the top and pans upwards to the characters head. It is obvious this is the same character from the beginning because of the mark on his face. His eyes are closed and he seems to be submerged in liquid, as bubbles rise to the top of the capsule.

The next clip shows the scene from the last script, with the character exploding in rage and then attacking the city with what seems like a beam of energy. The camera zooms in on the characters angered face. He then turns his head when he realises he isn’t alone. The camera switches to a close up of a new characters face. He has a calm expression. This new character has been sent to stop the attack.

The camera zooms out to a shot of the two characters facing each other side on. The sun is bright and in the centre of the screen. A lens flare may be used for effect. The characters fire at each other simultaneously and they’re energy meets in the middle. The camera zooms in quickly as the energy explodes in light.

The final shot shows the capsule again, and ends with the characters eyes opening suddenly.

rotoscoping

here i had a go at using the rotoscoping technique. i traced over a video i made for 3d animation, of 2 gears turning.

Storyboard for animation

here is my storyboard for my final idea. it is in two parts as i drew it on one sheet of paper, both sides.

I have used arrows and notes to record my ideas for how the animation will play out.

Animation summary and script. First draft.

Animation script- first idea.

Summary of scene:

This scene shows a bustling city. Pedestrians fill the pavement and the roads are gridlocked. The sound of car horns is frequent as irritated drivers turn on each other. Slowly there is a lull in the road rage as more and more people turn their attention to a figure floating high above the city.

He is breathing heavily, and is in a state of anger. Suddenly a he roars something unheard from the street, and then projects a powerful beam of energy from his hands towards the ground.

The city erupts in pandemonium. Cars and bodies are flung into the air as a huge shockwave decimates the surrounding area. Buildings collapse and the road is ripped from the ground.

Then the figure stops his attack. He is calm now. Only the burning city is left below, the crack of fire the only sound to be heard besides the figures slow breathing.

Scene run-through:

Shot 1 and 8- Close-up of face of character in sky, zoomed into eye.

The characters’ breathing is the only sound. The breathing is heavy in 1 and calm in 8.

No background needed.

Shot 2- Pedestrians walking, shot from foot level, only legs downwards visible.

City sounds, including footsteps.

Buildings and pavement are in the background.

Shot 3- Inside car, looking out of windscreen.

Car horns and shouting.

Background shows the city and crossroads into the distance.

Shot 4- Same as 1, with sky background, tops of buildings. Zooms out to show character before attack.

Shot 5- Zoomed out on city, shows shockwave.

Shot 6- Character in middle, objects flying past.

Shot 7- Destroyed city.

Week 6 lecture exercises

Here are my drawing exercises from the lecture in week 6.

Week 7

This week i completed the multiplane tutorial. it taught how to use pegs for camera and character movement and also how to move objects back and forth in a scene.

the video was made by following the tutorial, it isn't my own work.

week 5 and 6

This week we looked at using cutout animation. the technique can use a picture which is then separated into pieces, however i drew my own body parts instead. i created an animation of a robot jumping across the screen. i used the peg element to move the character across and upwards to show the jumping movement. i then used key frames to create the animation, with a combination of the motion and rotate tools.

Here is my completed lecture exercise on cartoon photos.

I used Photoshop to trace the outline and then coloured in the spaces.

2da week 4

this weeks task was to create a stop motion in a group. to capture the frames we used digital cameras which were connected to the computer. the images are saved as frames. the background can then be removed. when all the frames were complete we added sound.

2da week 3

This weeks task was to create a lip sync demo. toon boom has a built in lip syncing tool which makes this process very simple.

here i tested the technique using a simple face.

and here i have drawn a more detailed character.

2da week 2

this weeks task was to create a walk cycle. the techniques used included drawing, the auto light table, pivot points and joining mulitple layers into one object.

firstly i created 4 extra layers. this gave 5 layers in total. i named them with the 5 body parts needed (torso, arm front, arm back, leg front, leg back) and then drew the separate parts on their respective layers. the auto light table was useful in this instance as it allows the other layers to be visible when drawing which helps line up the body parts. to use this feature you simply click the light button in the top bar (next to onion skin).

with each layer drawn i attached the limbs to the torso layer by dragging and dropping them onto the torso layer. they are now linked. i then selected all the layers and extended the exposure by pressing the R key. i added 14 frames. i then added keyframes at the start, mid and end points of the limbs. using the rotate tool i first changed the pivot positions for each limb by dragging the green circle onto the joints. i then rotated the limbs in the appropriate keyframes to give the movement. i added some keyframes to the torso as well and used the motion tool to move the body up and down slightly.

the animation is finished!!

here is the video in avi:

and here is the gif image i made using microsoft gif animator, for some reason it doesn't cycle through the frames though...

2da week 1

in the first week we were told the name of the software that would be used for the module...Toon Boom! i had already used this software before at home, but i started with the simple tutorials as i had not used it in a while.

firstly i drew a simple shape and made it move up and down using the motion tween and keyframes.

Here is the first key frame.

The shape was drawn using the paint brush, and then the frame turned into a keyframe by pressing I. i then extended the exposure by 10 frames. this copies the same image across the next 10 frames. the middle and last frames were also changed to keyframes.

Here is the middle frame. i moved the drawing downwards using the motion arrow. now when the animation is played the middle keyframe is different to the first and last frames, creating motion. the other frames are automatically filled in with motion by the computer.
